Business Models and Punctual Innovations for Urban Regeneration in the context of the Digitization of the Built Environment
800’000 Euro from the Lombardy Region for the project of the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Territory, Environment and Mathematics (DICATAM) on seismic upgrading and energy efficiency.
Urban regeneration, building renovation and digitization. These are the key words of the research project Elisir – Energy, Life Styled & Seismic Innovation for Regenerated Buildings (www.smartliving-elisir.it) which aims to develop, on the basis of Big Data analysis, process and product innovation by applying intervention models to the existing building stock in view of seismic upgrading and energy efficiency.
Lead partner, the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Territory, Environment and Mathematics (Dicatam) of the University of Brescia together with the Department of Information Engineering (DII) in collaboration with ESEB.
The project obtained, within the framework of a call by the Lombardy Region, a loan of almost 800 thousand euros out of a total economic commitment of 1.8 million euros.
The project partners are Politecnico di Milano Schneider Electric, Valsir spa, Harley & Dikkinson, Gexcel, Assini Costruzione, Deldossi srl, Delta Phoenix e Italserramenti.
The objectives deriving from ELISIR’s multidisciplinary approach can only be achieved through a close collaboration between competences from different areas, structural engineering, electronic engineering, home automation and control, telecommunications and sensor networks (wireless or wired), data collection systems, methodologies and techniques for the digitization of the AEC sector and control of the performance of the built environment. The technical-scientific team of the Elisir project therefore avails itself of figures of scientific relevance from the universities involved and of the contacts for each partner.
The University of Brescia (UniBS), project leader (Contact: Giovanni Plizzari), represents the ideal environment for research in the field of digitizing measurement information for the Built Environment, thanks to the presence of heterogeneous skills, as demonstrated by the multidisciplinary laboratory eLUX (http://elux.unibs.it/), fully funded by the University. In addition, UniBS has numerous collaborations with international research institutes (Ruhr-Universität Bochum, EMPA, NUI Galway University, ETH Zürich), whose extensive experience in the field can make a fundamental contribution to the ELISIR project. The UniBS research groups included in the project are: the research group on embedded systems and Smart Sensor (ES3) of the Department of Information Engineering (DII) (Contact: Stefano Rinaldi), has been working for years on real-time communication systems, intelligent measurement systems applied to energy systems, home automation systems and environmental condition detection, time synchronization techniques, wireless sensor networks and IoT sensors and the integration of sensors in Building Information Modeling (BIM) together with the working group of the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Land, Environment and Mathematics DICATAM. The working groups included in the project and related to DICATAM integrate skills ranging from Building Production and Technical Architecture, BIM methodology, supply chain, performance analysis of buildings (Contact: Lavinia Chiara Tagliabue) to the Building Technology research group active on various fronts of structural engineering, including theoretical studies, experimental activities and numerical analysis of structural elements and building materials (concrete, wood, steel, innovative cement-based materials) (Contact: Giovanni Metelli).
